2024 Leadership Camp

Creative Classroom is thrilled to be starting another leadership program for students entering grades 5-8! Students who have attended our past program are still welcome to join this one! No prerequisites are required for this program, just an open mind and enthusiasm!

This program will be seven days long, beginning August 13th(Tuesday) and ending August 23rd (Friday). There will be no classes during the weekend. Each day, classes will take place from 12:30 PM to 4:30 PM. This camp will take place in the Sharon Public Library and the First Baptist Church in Sharon. The students will prepare an end-of-program presentation which parents, guardians, and family members will get to see. 

Everyone can be a great leader. Our program aims to help each individual recognize their unique style of leadership and learn communication skills through:

- Being proactive and having a growth mindset

- Letting the vision and goal lead you

- Prioritizing

- Seeking mutually-beneficial situations

- Working to understand before being understood

- Working together to achieve more

- Finding balance in life and continuously improving

Camp Leader/Instructor:

Sophie Liang: A rising junior at Sharon High School. She is a part of Science Olympiad, SMST, and varsity XC. She was the teaching assistant for a public speaking course with Creative Classroom in 2022 and the principal camp leader of the 2023 summer leadership program. She has also been a private tutor with Lexington Youth in 2022 and 2023. She was the student leader of a group of volunteers at the Harvard Youth Public Health Symposium 2024. She received a Gold President's Volunteer Service Award in 2023 for volunteering. She is passionate about teaching and helping kids learn and improve their skills.

Professional Coach:

Ms. Ru Zheng, MBA: The Director of Global Business Development and Distribution of Universal Sequencing Technology. She has more than 20 years of experience in life science industries. 

Ru is a certified Dale Carnegie Trainer, TypeCoach Professionals, and active community leader. She served as the President of Chinese Biopharmaceutical Association Boston Chapter from 2020 to 2022, and served in the leadership team as officer, general manager (2008-2013), former president (2013-2014) and as board member (2014-2020) in New England Chinese Information and Networking Association. She has been volunteering for the Youth Entrepreneurship Service Program since 2006. 

Instructors:

Emma Liu: A rising junior at Sharon High School. She has been the secretary of her school's Key Club, a service organization that encourages leadership through volunteering, for two years. She earned a silver key for poetry in the 2024 Scholastic Writing Awards and placed in the Top 12 at the 2024 DECA State Competition as a State Finalist. She has worked in the past with Creative Classroom as a camp leader of the 2023 summer leadership program and a mentor for the 2023 summer public speaking club. She has also been a teacher assistant and tutor with Sharon Chinese School since 2022. Emma is passionate about helping kids improve their skills and find their love for learning.

Angelina Yu: A rising sophomore at Commonwealth High School. She is the leader and donation organizer of crochet-for-community club in the school. She is a writer and editor for her school’s Newspaper Club and she won a Silver Key Writing Award in the Scholastic Arts and Writing Competition. In the summer of 2023, she was a teaching assistant in Creative Classroom’s leadership camp and a mentor for the public speaking camp. She’s excited to help other students improve their leadership skills.

Assistant Instructors:

Hanson Zhu: An incoming freshman at Sharon High School. He was an honorable mention in SMST (Sharon Math and Science Tournament) during 6th grade. He is a competitive badminton player, recently getting 4th place in Men's Doubles at NE NJBC CRC (Northeast New Jersey Badminton Club Closed Regional Championships). He is also a gold medalist in Keys! Music Challenge,  First Place winner of Crescendo International Music Competition on Piano, in 2021, along with this, he taught piano for some time. Furthermore, he takes honor classes in RSM, has taken robotics, learned 2 coding languages (Javascript and Python), and learned how to quickly solve a Rubik’s cube. He’s happy to help other students improve their leadership skills.

Daniel Gao: An incoming freshman at Sharon High School. He received honorable mentions in SMST (Sharon Math and Science Tournament) and 6th highest score in AMC 8 during 7th grade. Hay Lightning swim team (ranked nationals), made age groups in swimming and played basketball when he was younger. Furthermore, he takes AOPS (Art of Problem Solving), is trilingual (french, mandarin, English), currently learning a 4th language(Japanese), codes (Javascript and Python), plays guitar, flute, and drum set, cubes (can solve under 15 seconds), taken art classes, public speaking, and participated in the SMS debate club. Additionally, he has an almost near full score on SHSAT (specialized high school admissions test). Daniel is thrilled to further deepen and improve the leadership skills of the other students participating in the leadership camp.

A $75 donation to the MGH fund linked here is required to attend this program.
